------------------------------------------------------------ PRELIMINARY "UNOFFICIAL" DARK CRISIS RULINGS December 29th, 2003 By Edo (ehrzic@yahoo.com) ------------------------------------------------------------ The following rulings are unofficial, and have been culled from the Japanese Expert Rules Page and the FAQ on the Japanese section of www.yugioh-card.com/japan/, which is controlled by Konami. -----| NOTES! Rulings offset by &&&&& are different than rulings that have been set forth by Upper Deck. -----| GENERAL: ARCHFIENDS - Many Archfiends have the "Pay ???? Life Points during your Standby Phase." This payment is NOT optional. If you CAN pay it, you MUST pay it. For example, if an Archfiend has a cost of 800 to keep on the Field and you only have 800 Life Points left, you MUST pay it, and you will lose. If you have FEWER than 800 Life Points in that example, you cannot make the payment and the card is destroyed. -----| GENERAL: "GUARDIAN" MONSTERS - You cannot Normal Summon, Flip Summon or Special Summon unless their accompanying Equip Spell card is on the Field. - If forced to be Special Summoned by [Cyber Jar] and their Equip Spell cards are not on the Field, they go to your hand. - If forced to be Special Summoned by [Morphing Jar #2] and their Equip Spell cards are not on the Field, they go to your Graveyard. - CAN be Set from your hand if the appropriate Equip Spell card is not on the Field, so long as the Set was not a Special Summon (i.e. [The Shallow Grave]). If later turned face-up by an effect (non-Flip Summon), it will remain on the Field. -----| GENERAL: OTHER - Yes, the Gearfried + Elma + Library "draw-my-entire-deck-in-one-turn-Look!-I-got-Exodia" combo works. - Yes, the Gearfried + Elma + Marionette "destroy-all-of-your-Monsters-on-the-Field-and-attack-directly- for-nauseating-damage" combo works. - No, the Woodland Sprite + Elma combo does NOT work. (Putting in the Graveyard is NOT the same as destroying). -----| DCR-000 Vampire Lord - Its Special Summon effect will only trigger if destroyed while on its OWNER'S Field and when it goes to its OWNER'S Graveyard. - If your opponent gains this card by [Exchange] and summons it, if you destroy it, its Special Summon effect will NOT be triggered. - Will only trigger its Special Summon effect if DIRECTLY destroyed by an opponent's card effect. If indirectly destroyed, it will not be Special Summoned. For example, if [Premature Burial] Special Summons this card card your Graveyard and an opponent destroys the [...Burial] with [Mystical Space Typhoon], this card's Special Summon effect will NOT be triggered, since [...Burial] would be the card that destroys it. - Its Special Summon effect will NOT be triggered if Tributed. (Tributing isn't the same thing as destroying). - Its Special Summon effect will NOT be triggered if destroyed as a result of Battle. - If Special Summoned during you Standby Phase, and your opponent destroys it during that same Standby Phase, you will NOT be able to Special Summon it again during that same Standby Phase. (The text specifies "during your next Standby Phase). - Will Special Summon itself even if [Necrovalley] is on the Field. - If removed from play ([Bottomless Trap Hole], [Emissary...]), it will NOT be Special Summoned to the Field. -----| DCR-012 Reflect Bounder - This card's effect triggers as soon as the Damage Step is entered. - Will destroy itself if attacked by a weaker Monster. -----| DCR-015 Different Dimension Dragon - This card can't be destroyed by cards that don't specifically choose a target, such as [Raigeki], [Dark Hole], and [Mirror Force]. -----| DCR-018 Mirage Knight - CANNOT be Special Summoned from your Graveyard, even if played legally through its own effect. -----| DCR-019 Berserk Dragon - CANNOT be Special Summoned from your Graveyard, even if played legally through its own effect. -----| DCR-020 Exodia Necross - CANNOT be Special Summoned from your Graveyard, even if played legally through its own effect. - CAN be destroyed by the effects of Monster cards, such as [Man-Eater Bug] and [Cyber Jar]. -----| DCR-022 Blindly Loyal Goblin - CANNOT be a legal candidate for [Creature Swap], since it cannot switch control to your opponent. -----| DCR-024 Majin Garzett - CANNOT be put into your hand by the effect of [Sangan], since its ATK is a variable. - CANNOT be Special Summoned from your deck by [Mystic Tomato], since its ATK is a variable. - If Special Summoned from your Graveyard, its ATK will be 0. -----| DCR-027 D. D. Warrior Lady - This card's effect is optional. You can choose to activate it AFTER the Damage Step. -----| DCR-032 Butterfly Dagger - Elma - Will NOT return to your hand if the Monster it is Equipped on goes to the Graveyard in some way. - WILL return to your hand if Equipped on [Gearfried...] and destroyed by its effect. - Does NOT return to your hand if put into your Graveyard by [Woodland Sprite] or [Guardian Ceal]. (Putting in the Graveyard is NOT the same as destroying). -----| DCR-034 Gravity Axe - Grarl - External effects (i.e. [Stop Defense]) can still change the positions of your opponent's Monsters. -----| DCR-035 Wicked-Breaking Flamberge - Baou - Discarding a card from your hand to activate this card is a cost. If this card is negated and destroyed, the discarded card is NOT returned to your hand. -----| DCR-037 Twin Swords of Flashing Light - Tryce - Discarding a card from your hand to activate this card is a cost. A card's level CANNOT be reduced to lower than 1 in this way. - When Monsters affected by this card are played, their Levels remain reduced for the rest of the turn (even while on the Field). -----| DCR-059 Sasuke Samurai #2 - No, this effect is NOT a multi-trigger. -----| DCR-063 Great Maju Gazett - If Special Summoned from your Graveyard, its ATK will be 0. -----| DCR-086 Contract with the Abyss - If [Cost Down] is used, it will NOT reduce the amount of Levels needed to be Tributed to use this card to Ritual Summon a Dark-Type Monster (the text on the Dark-Type Ritual Monster states the number of Levels that must be Tributed). - The Tributes MUST add up to the EXACT Level of the Ritual Monster. In other words, you CANNOT Tribute Monsters with total Levels that exceed the Ritual Monster's. Example: You cannot Tribute a Blue Eyes (Level 8) to Ritual Summon a Level 7 Monster. - 12/29/03: As if you need to be reminded, this card can only summon Dark-Type RITUAL Monsters. Your turn, Turn 19 Opponent's turn, Turn 20, your opponent's turn ends Your turn, Turn 21, once entering your turn, before you draw, you win the game - [Pyro Clock of Destiny] CAN increment the number of turns by 1.
