Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters

Episode 137: The Path To Becoming A True Duelist

Jounouchi still has a trick up his sleeve. All he needs to do is buy some time.

At the top of the Duel Tower, Isis begs Yugi to save her younger brother, despite all that he has done. The only one that can defeat his evil self, and free her brother, is Yugi. He agrees, since Yugi feels that he is, in some small way, responsible for Malik's darker self.

Kaiba tries to use Seal Defense and an attack from Blue Eyes to nuke Jounouchi's remaining 100 Life Points, but Jounouchi gets smart and uses Body Strengthening Supplement Super Z, and stays alive to battle another turn.

Jounouchi then gets what he was waiting for -- the Time Magician. The Time Magic effect works, turning his Baby Dragon into the Thousand Dragon, and Blue Eyes is destroyed.

...but at the last moment, Kaiba uses the Sub-Space Matter Transfer Device, to avoid the effect of the Time Magic.

Jounouchi is completely prepared for defeat. Jounouchi's had fun, and is something that Kaiba can't even conceive. This show the difference between Jounouchi and Kaiba -- Kaiba's only goal is to win, and that is that. Kaiba fuses two Thunder Dragons into the Two-Headed Thunder Dragon, and with the help of Blue Eyes, ends the duel.

At the end of the duel, Jounouchi gives Kaiba a parting phrase:
"I certainly may have lost, but that's just in the now. Some day, I'll beat you. Until that time, I'll fight any number of battles, and keep continuing, no matter how many losses I get. That's my path to becoming a true duelist."
Kaiba's ready to leave from Alcatraz, as his Battle City is over, and has no interest in the finals.

Then he runs into Isis. Both reflect that Yugi, even though he has two God cards, doesn't have much of a chance to defeat Malik. Isis states that he will need Kaiba's help to win. Isis states that the tablets in the museum were not a record of a conflict between enemies; rather, it was a symbol to that of a friend that had passed on -- a symbol of friendship.

Kaiba tells Mokuba to set the self-destruct system, but Mokuba says otherwise. Yugi and his friends don't need rage to win. They risked everything to save Mokuba from Pegasus and the Ghouls. Mokuba asks Kaiba to promise that his vengeance against his deceased foster-father will disappear with the destruction of the Duel Tower at the end of the Battle City tournament.

At the top of the Duel Tower, Malik and Yugi begin their pre-game staredowns.

Kaiba decides, in the end, to go see the finals with Yugi and Malik. When arriving at the top, Kaiba throws Yugi the key card that he was going to defeat Ra's and its unknown ability.
Episode 138: Final, Yugi VS Malik

Yugi looks at the card -- Devil's Sanctuary. Despite Jounouchi and company voicing some reservations, Yugi shuffles it into his deck without any complaints.

The game finally starts...and so does the Game of Darkness. Not just a Game of Darkness, but the penultimate Game of Darkness, where their other selves would be sacrificed to the darkness at the end of the duel. This is fully demonstrated when Malik summons a Quick Leech and attacks ON THE VERY FIRST TURN. As Life Points are lost, parts of the the "sacrifice's" body disappear.

Ra is discarded from Malik's hand early on, and even though he tries to grab Raise Dead from his deck with Trade Your Left Arm, Yugi uses Exchange to steal it. Yugi uses the combinations of Queen's, King's and Jack's Knight to summon Osiris. He tries to attack, but Malik uses Dark Magic Revival to use Raise Dead, and bring Ra to the Field. It fully blocks Osiris' attack.
Episode 139: Devil's Sanctuary, Activate!

Ra then "counterattacks" with its God Phoenix ability to destroy Osiris. Ra then returns to Malik's Cemetery.

Then Malik uses Zombie's Jewel to once again retrieve Raise Dead. Yugi gets to draw a card with Malik's Zombie's Jewel. He draws and, and without even looking at it, sets it in his Duel Disk as a MAgic/Trap card. The referee states a violation of the rules, but Kaiba tells him to let Yugi do it anyway. Yugi ends his turn.

Malik uses Raise Dead, and bring Ra to the Field again. He pays all but 1 Life Points, transferring all of those Life Points to Ra's attack and defense, "fusing" with Ra. Then he sacrifices his remaining Monster on the Field, to further increase Ra's attack strength.

Malik declares his attack...

...and Yugi activates Devil's Sanctuary.

Devil's Sanctuary Special Summons a Metal Devil Token to the Field, with attack and defense equal to the Life Points of the opposing player. If destroyed, it would reduce the opponent's Life Points by the amount of the Metal Devil Token's attack strength.

It's took late to voluntarily stop Ra from attacking the Token, and it looks as though Malik has lost.

But at the very last moment, he used the Fusion Cancel he took from Yugi during his use of Exchange, and "de-fuses" himself from Ra AND restore his Life Points.

But there is another use for the Metal Devil Token. The Token has a heavy 1000 Life Point maintenance cost, but Yugi pays it. Yugi activats Multiplication, turning the Metal Devil Token into three tokens. He sacrifices all three to summon Obelisk.

Malik eats a God Hand Crush directly.
Episode 140: The Undying Wall, God Slime

The downside of that attack is the reminder that the "sacrifice" in this duel would disappear into the darkness for an eternity.

The true Malik calls upon Rishid, in the Battle Ship. His spirit appears, and talks to him as Rishid sleeps on. Malik thanks Rishid for everything, as he won't be in this world much longer.

However, the attack was not something that Malik did not expect. He activates the card, Metal Reflect Slime, which creates a Monster with defense strength equal to 3/4 of the damage that he received in the attack -- turning into a "copy" of Obelisk, a God Slime.

Malik then fuses a Revival Slime and the God Slime together, but it doesn't appear that much has changed. Yugi attacks with Obelisk to destroy the God Slime, but it regenerates. The God Slime gained the Revival Slime revival slime ability in the fusion. And with the Defend Slime card, Malik can now redirect any attack to the God Slime.

Yugi is still worried about how to defeat Malik darker self while saving the true Malik. The true Malik takes this time to "possess" Anzu, to tell Yugi that he's ready to take his darker self with him, so he should do whatever it takes to destroy his darker self.

Malik uses Magic Shard Excavation to yet again retrieve Raise Dead from his Cemetery.

At this time, Rishid wakes up.
Episode 141: The Rage of Obelisk, Soul Energy MAX

Yugi and the pharaoh talk about how to defeat Malik. They decide that the key to defeating Malik would be in the "fusion" with Ra.

Malik brings Ra back with Raise Dead in order to destroy Obelisk with its God Phoenix effect. It appears to hit, but Osiris "appears" in its way. Yugi used his OWN Raise Dead to bring Osiris back.

Malik then activates Surprise Attack From the Darkness to bring Ra back to have another Battle Phase.

Rishid stumbles out of the Battle Ship, and toward the Duel Tower.

Malik combines with Ra once again. Yugi then uses Soul Taker to sacrifice one of Malik's Monsters. Ra is enveloped in a hurricane. Malik states that Ra can't be sacrificed by a Magic card.

Yugi says: "Who said I was going to sacrifice Ra?"

The God Slime is what is going to be sacrificed. Since it is a Fusion of two Monsters, it counts as two Monsters, to power Obelisk's effect, Soul Energy MAX and...

...God Hand Impact. Obelisk's attack strength is boosted to INFINITE.

The blast hits Ra...

...and has no effect, due to the effect of Malik's card, The Upper Class.

Ra counter attacks Obelisk, but Yugi uses Magical Dimension to sacrifice Obelisk and Gazelle. Ra's attack is effectively negated, and Yugi Special Summons the Black Magician.

Yugi activates his final card, Ragnarok. Ragnarok removes all Monsters in Yugi's hand, deck and Cemetery from the game, and destroys all Monster on his opponent's Field.

Malik breaks it to him that he will still have 1 Life Point remaining, and if he has the mind to kill both him and the true Malik, to go ahead and do it.

Rishid arrives at the top of the Duel Tower, to the amazement of everyone.
Episode 142: Battle City Concludes!

Rishid convinces the true Malik to not abandon himself to the darkness and despair that he had been subjected to while in the Ishtahl family. A person must continue to live; that is not the Gravekeeper's duty, that's the duty of every person.

The true Malik breaks through with his request, that in the final attack they will find out if the true Malik can throw off all his despair, anger and sadness, and live on.

Yugi chooses to resolve the effect of Ragnarok. All of Yugi's Monsters appear (including Kuribo), and take down Ra as a massive army. All that is left is Malik...

...the true Malik. He has switched places with his darker self -- the darker self becoming the sacrifice now. The game isn't over yet.

The true Malik decides to end this entire incident with his own hand, since he created his darkner self.

Malik concedes the game to Yugi. And with that, Malik's evil self is destroyed, and Yugi wins the Battle City tournament.

With the defeat of Malik, all those who lost to Malik in Games of Darkness are now freed. Malik also hands over the final God card, Ra, and the remaining Millennium Items in his possession.

Since Kaiba has no more use for the Duel Tower, he decides to destroy the whole island in one island.

Back in the Battle Ship, Jounouchi checks in on Mai, who is still unconscious...for the time being as she and Shizuka play a joke on Jounouchi. Bakura, on the other hand, is chowing down in the kitchen.

Now they're ready to leave, but Kaiba hasn't arrived at the Battle Ship. They decide to go look for Kaiba.

The other problem is...the engines for the Battle Ship have completely shut down. There's no way to leave the island in it.
