The place: Egypt, The Valley of the Pharaoh. The time: 1960. Three men are making their way through the Valley of the Pharaoh, which was once part of the ancient Egyptian Empire. The men are two Egyptian guides, and a young Sugoroku Mutou. As they walk, the guides explain the dangers surrounding a shrine in the Valley. Many have entered, few have escaped. Those who survived breathed the words: "Game of Darkness." Though there is supposed to be an enormous treasure in the Valley, Sugoroku is not interested in it: he is more concerned with the "game," and the challenge that this adventure brings with it. After descending through an entrance, and following a path dotted with hieroglyphics, they find themselves in a room filled with long-dead corpses. The expanse of the room contains something that appears to be a maze of paths; the rest leads down into the darkness. Certain intervals have the statue of an ancient Egpytian warrior on it. Shortly after entering the room, the door slams shut, trapping all three of them in there. To make matters worse, spikes just from the entrance wall, forcing them to make their way onto the "maze." Surogoku races first, but it almost cut down by a statue that begins to move. A few more slices and the statue stops. Sugoroku looks down at his feet, and realize that the key to the game is much like those subjects of the Pharaoh in ancient Egypt: one had to put their left foot forward. Surogoku tells both of the guides this, but walking with their left foot in front of their right foot. They try to obey, but one gets too scared and begins to run. He is immediately skewered by a statue's sword. The other guide pulls out a gun, blaming Sugoroku for what happened, but Sugoroku tells him that it's the result of a Game of Darkness. They make their way into a second room. A walkway, with either side leading into darkness, stretches to an area with a shining box. On the path are pictures of monsters. The guide make Sugoroku go first. Almost as he makes his way across, the guide shoots him in the back. Sugoroku tumbles of the side, but barely grabs the edge of the walkway. The guide walks over to try and make his way to the box, but a monster appears and quickly swallows him whole. Just as Sugoroku is about to slip, he seems someone. A young man, who looks just like Yugi, offers him his hand. He says "I've been waiting for you...Shimon..." The next thing Sugoroku knows is that he is laying on the path. He walks over and picks up the box. The Millennium Puzzle. BATTLE 280: AN UNEASY NIGHT The normal Yugi thinks of the things that have happened. They had won the God cards, the key to unlocking the memories of his other self. The time to start searching for the way to uncover his memories has begun. Sugoroku sees that Yugi is still up and peeks in on him. And of course he wants to see the God cards again. And, of course, he wants to sell them in the store, much to the objection of Yugi. The whole reason that they fought in Battle City was for the memories of his other self. And Yugi is befuddled to know that Sugoroku does, indeed, know that Yugi has another self: the soul of a Pharaoh. Its his duty as the chosen one to carry on the will of the Pharaoh. That night, the normal Yugi and other Yugi talk amongst themselves: about putting the Millennium Puzzle together, and how many friends they made during their journey. After they fall asleep, someone breaks into the window in Yugi's room and steals the box that the God cards are in. Yugi take off after him Just as it appears that the thief is getting away, he is knocked out by someone in a black coat... Bakura. Bakura takes the box from the unconscious man, and gives it back to Yugi. He tells Yugi to be careful, since collectors now know that he has the God cards. But it's very clear to Yugi that it isn't really Bakura, but the other Bakura, the soul of the Millennium Ring. Bakura says that the time will come when he will give Yugi the Millennium Ring. And he also takes this opportunity to show Yugi another Millennium Item that he has - the Millennium Eye. Bakura also states that he would be willing to hand them over at any time to help unlock the memories in the other Yugi's mind. BATTLE 281: THE TRUTH OF THE ARTIFACTS Bakura is gathering the Millennium Items as well. In order for the soul in the Millennium Puzzle to gain his memories back, the seven Millennium Items will be needed. Bakura promises to hand over the Millennium Ring at that time. Yugi wonders how much Bakura knows, and Bakura reveals that the items will open a door to another world. What he doesn't tell Yugi is that it's so that Bakura can gain control of the powers of darkness. As a gesture of "good will," Bakura tosses the Millennium Eye to Yugi. Bakura knows that the seven Millennium Items were but one item that is necessary to open that "door." The real key lays within the memories of the soul in the Millennium Puzzle. Without those memories, the door can't be opened. Before he leaves, Bakura tells him that he and his friends should go to the museum after school, and solve the mystery once and for all. That day at school, Yugi and company gather in the classroom before school. Anzu is worried that when the memories of the other Yugi return, he will forget all about them. The other Yugi takes this opportunity to take over and say quite the contrary. After school, the crew makes their way to the museum. A very large man is waiting for them. His name is Bobasa, and not only does he have the Millennium Scale and Ahnk, but he has them IMBEDDED in his flesh, along with areas for the remaining Millennium Items. He is one of the family of Gravekeepers, under the direction of Shahdi. BATTLE 282: JOURNEY TO THE MEMORIES!! Jounouchi is quite distrustful, as he is a Gravekeeper. Bobasa states otherwise; he does state that he is, indeed, a Gravekeeper, but has always been under the direction of Shahdi, who told Bobasa to protect Yugi. The Gravekeeper's duty is to protect the soul of the Pharaoh and the Millennium Items. Bobasa offers to hold the Puzzle for Yugi, as he states that he is a walking treasure chest, but Yugi declines. Bobasa shows how he can "lock" his coat with a key to protect the Millennium Items. He can swallow and regurgitate the key at will. Bobasa's true duty at this moment is to lead him the soul of the Pharaoh to the world of his memories, to confront his fate once again. They enter the museum and as they walk through, Anzu makes a short trip in the gift shop. She gives Yugi what she buys: a Cartouche Pendant, so that when he learns his real name, he can inscribe it there so that he doesn't forget it. They enter the room with the large tablets. Yugi takes the three God cards, and holds them in front of the tablets. There is a burst of light, and the other Yugi is pulled into a vortex, where he sees a throne room, with six people standing, and one seated in a throne. BATTLE 283: THE SIX CHOSEN PRIESTS!! After the light show, it is found that the other Yugi has completely disappeared from the normal Yugi's heart AND the Millennium Puzzle. Bobasa explains that he is currently in the world of his memories. Yugi "awakens" on a throne. He is awoken by someone that he mistakes as his grandfather, but the man simply states that he is Shimon Mulan. It's at this time that he realizes that everything looks strange, and he's in the getup of a Pharaoh. He asks Shimon who the people standing around are, and he notices that they hold the Millennium Items. A man is brought before them that invaded the royal tombs. He claims that he stole nothing. The priest use this opportunity to test his Ka (soul). Priest Shada uses the Millennium Ahnk to look into his mind, where an evil creature resides. The creature shows itself, whereupon another Priest seals it within a large tablet. Priest Seto. BATTLE 284: A WICKED SHADOW!! Yugi is in the world of his memories. He hasn't actually gone back in time, but rather, is re-living his memories of three thousand years ago, all the way up until he is sealed in the Millennium Puzzle. The secret of what happened all that time ago will be revealed. However, there is a way for his friends to go to that world as well. The fate of the man who enter the royal tombs is decided, the tablet is taken away, and Yugi is a little more than overcome with the turn of events. Shimon tries to cheer him up by talking about the structure that will be his grave... [EDO'S NOTE: Remember that tombs in Egypt sometimes took decades to built (usually pyramids), and the construction of it usually took place when the pharaoh was born. So, the pyramids served as a (morbid) reminder that they would die some day...] At this time, Priestess Isis receives a vision of the future - a dark shadow is approaching the castle, with an incredible amount of magical energy. A man, draped in large amounts of jewelry and carry a mummy of sorts, makes his way to the castle gates...Bakura. Though a few guards try to stop him, he easily disposes of the them, and makes his way to the audience chamber with the Pharaoh. Bakura is the one that actually raided the royal tomb of the Pharaoh's father, Aknamkanon. That's the mummy he is carrying. BATTLE 285: KING OF THIEVES, BAKURA The way into the world of Yugi's memories has conditions. They must enter the room of Yugi's mind, and find the "correct" door. In addition, only those who do not have an evil heart will be allowed in. Bobasa uses the Millennium Scale to judge the crew: Yugi is fine, Anzu is fine, Jounouchi is fine, Honda is fine...but Bakura is not. The Scale tilts, judging him improper to enter. Bobasa feels the evil aura of the Millennium Ring, but doesn't mention it to the group. Bakura leaves. The remaining group joins hands, and with Bobasa using the Millennium Ahnk, they are swallowed up by light. Bakura has come to the palace for something more valuable than the gold he carries - he wants the Millennium Items. The Priests make preparations to "catch" the evil creature in his soul. However, all of the Millennium Items begin to react to Bakura's immense power. Priest Shada states that they will need a bigger tablet, but Bakura's Ka shows itself - Diabound. Priest Seto attempts to seal it in the tablet. It words for a moment, but it breaks free. BATTLE 286: DIABOUND VS. GARESTOGORAS Yugi and the group wake up in the room of Yugi's mind - the labyrinth of the other Yugi. They begin their search for the true door of his mind. Diabound has broken free of the tablet. Priest Seto steps forward to take up the challenge. He calls on the power of one of the massive number of tablets in the royal palace, and summons the beast Garestogoras. Bakura and Priest Seto fight their battle. Just as it seems that Priest Seto is winning, Diabound disappears. Bakura states that he has activated Diabound's special ability. He reveals that if the tablet that a Monster has been summoned from is destroyed, so it the summoned Monster. Diabound emerges from the tablet that Priest Seto called Garestogoras from, destroying it. Thus, Priest Seto's Monster is also destroyed. Bakura beckons the pharaoh to fight. BATTLE 287: A FATHER'S SHADOW Yugi wants to know what Bakura's true purpose is. And Bakura says to ask the mummy he has. The mummy is, indeed, Yugi's father, the creator of the Millennium Items. Bakura's objective is to open a sarcophagus with the seven Millennium Items, in an area of Kul Elna's forest. Bakura would then be gifted with the power of Zork Necrophades. The Priests begin to fight a losing battle against Diabound. Yugi gets up, and simply "pushes" Bakura over to retrieve the mummy of his father. Yugi simply says, "Just wait. I'll beat the hell out of you right now." ----------------------------------------------------------------- Fin.
