We've hit twenty-five cards of the week. That's almost one-quarter of a hundred. This time is the rather fun and confusing card, Toon Gemini Elf. This card is exclusive to the Pegasus Structure Deck, but was also reprinted as a Rare in Duelist Legacy 4.
Toon Gemini Elf is one of the easy-to-get members of the "1900 Club," which are those level four Monsters with an attack strength of 1900. The other easy-to-get one is Blood Vors from the Japanese Kaiba Structure Deck (which is much better, by the way).
What can we say about the card? It's statistics are wonderful; 1900 level four, plus it can also be fetched from your deck via a Black Forest Witch, and comes out via Cyber Pod. The drawback is that it can't attack the turn that it is Summoned, Reverse Summoned or Special Summoned. But hey, if you get one on your opening draw and summon it, it's not so much a drawback, since you can't attack during the first turn anyway.
That drawback is a bit negated by the fact that it boasts an effect that the "normal" Gemini Elf does not have -- the ability to discard cards from your opponent's hand. So, if you have three of these babies, it's like adding another lineup to assist the White Thief and Don Zaruug.
One of the most-asked questions about this card was prompted by its appearance in my Discard Deck in the Deck Lab (which is closed, which people don't appear to be able to read too well from the huge yellow text displayed out there). I have this card in that deck, but I have no Toon World.
You see, the Toon Gemini Elf (and the other three exclusive Toons to the Pegasus Structure Deck) DON'T REQUIRE TOON WORLD TO BE ON THE FIELD IN ORDER TO SUMMON, REVERSE SUMMON OR SPECIAL SUMMON IT. Yes, you read correctly; you can use the four exclusive Pegasus Structure Deck Toons in a deck without needing Toon World to be on the Field. Later on, when these are introduced in English, they will be classified as Group C Toons.
Group C Toons, as stated twice above, don't require Toon World to be on the Field to put them into play. However, this has the modified drawback of NOT being Special Summons, unlike the Group A Toons, which ARE Special Summons, and require Toon World to be on the Field. As well, Group C Toons have the added ability of being able to attack your opponent directly via its own effect as long as your Toon World IS on the Field, provided that your opponent doesn't control any Toons. However, they are still destroy if your Toon World is destroyed.
People may be wondering, "So, what are the Group B Toons about?" Well, Class B Toon, you mean. There is only one: Toon Black Magician Girl. She follows the standard procedures for Class A Toons, but with two differences: she CAN attack the turn she is Summoned, and does not have to pay the 500 Life Points to attack. Otherwise, she's the same as a Group A Toon.
Edo's Rating: 4 out of 5. I'd like to give the Toon Gemini Elf a higher rating, but that not being able to attack the turn it's Summoned drawback can REALLY hurt in the current environment. Toon Decks have gone from a misnomer and shunned archetype to something that is rather usable. I assume that Konami and Tazuki Takahashi wanted Toons to be a useable type, so they errat'd Toon World to its current incarnation.
